Born Elisha Ann Cuthbert, on Nov 30, 1982, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

They were calling it ground-breaking, the best thing on television by far. They said it was destined to succeed with its one season/one storyline strategy where Twin Peaks failed. They said that if America couldn’t get behind 24, Fox’s new “real time” show about “the longest day” of a counter-terrorism agent's life, then it fully deserved the mediocre television that it got. But for all the hype about the secrecy of the final episode and the dire consequences for any of the cast and crew that squealed about it, or how amazing (critics couldn’t stop using that word) Kiefer Sutherland was, for all the times they repeated the episodes of the show on both Fox and FX, very few people watched the series, and there was some doubt as to whether it would be allowed to continue for the whole season. Which was too bad for Elisha Cuthbert, as 24 is thus far the one show she might be known for despite having been acting since she was eleven.

And indeed, it was by chancing on the show while channel-surfing and catching a glimpse of Elisha’s cleavage as she was being abducted by teenage thugs that I first came to even notice the series, which I had absolutely no interest in before. (I didn’t care who David Palmer’s killer was going to be anymore than I still cared who Laura Palmer’s was.) Much to my surprise, the show was actually pretty engrossing: jaded TV fiend though I am, the suspense of the story — and yes, Kiefer's performance, as well as some of the others' — kept me addicted even without the occasional hooter fix from Elisha (and, to a lesser extent, Mia Kirshner). But as the series went from great to iffy in its final stretch — the amnesia episode, Dennis Hopper’s over-the-top villain whose Serbian (or was it Croatian?) accent makes Shannon Elizabeth’s American Pie accent sound convincing, the episodes seemingly created to pad out the series so that there’d be 24 of them, etc. — it was Elisha’s cleavage once more (and the fact that I had already invested a lot of time into this damned show) that kept me watching — albeit very reluctantly — to the bitter end.

Despite the minute ratings, though, 24 will be returning for another extended day in the life of agent Jack Bauer. Whether or not I let myself get suckered into it again will probably depend on what Elisha’s wearing even more than before, so she had better be close to naked for this one. If the people at Fox are smart, they’ll have Elisha’s character get kidnapped while she’s taking a shower or something — and focus on that fact in the ads. At least that way I won’t be the only dork out there who watched the series.

Also sprach Golem.

No Money for The Girl Next Door, Either

Monday, April 12, 2004
Granted, no one expected that The Girl Next Door would be pulling in The Passion of the Christ money, but with a measly six million dollar weekend gross, I think it’s safe to say that word got out that there’s no nudity in this picture about a porn star, that The Girl Next Door is an un-risqué ripoff of Risky Business.... No Nudity for The Girl Next Door

Wednesday, April 7, 2004
When an AP entertainment writer observed that the closest thing to nudity in The Girl Next Door — a film in which Elisha Cuthbert plays a porn star — was a scene in which her neighbor sees her bare back as she peels off her top, Elisha replied, “That’s as far as I’ve pushed it as far as nudity goes — and probably, that’s about as far as it will go for me.” In this new era of “wardrobe malfunction” hysteria and government-led jihads against obscenity, I suspect we’ll be seeing a lot more potentially topless actresses insisting on keeping their clothes on.... Sizing Up Elisha

Monday, December 16, 2002
The information I got when I first set up this page is that Elisha Cuthbert stands 5'6" tall, but according to someone who says he saw her at the Last Call with Carson Daly taping, she isn’t more than 5'2". That’s the trouble with the net: real facts are so hard to come by. [It doesn’t help that Elisha herself is skittish about revealing her true height, as she showed herself to be on Craig Kilborn on the 26th.]... Read more
