Born Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon , on Mar 22, 1976, in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
Not conventionally hot (she's cute, but has a sometimes distractingly big noggin and a chin that can cut glass), Reese Witherspoon has so forceful (if hyper) a personality and charisma that it was inevitable, I suppose, that she would be elevated to Hollywood royalty the moment she had the starring role in a mainstream film — in her case, Legally Blonde, which impressed critics by showing that Reese not only could carry a film by herself, but could turn even a weightless, witless film like Legally Blonde into a hit, having evolved from being a blonde but more talented Jennifer Love Hewitt (Fear, Overnight Delivery, Cruel Intentions) to a blonde but more talented Julia Roberts.
Unfortunately for me, the Reese I like is the forgotten Reese: the crazy, quirky Reese of Freeway and Election who will likely never be seen again now that she has a kid. Until that kid comes of age, I fear, it’ll be nothing but romantic comedies and other family-friendly fare, no matter how badly those films do at the box office. Worse is that, if too many of her films fall flat, it’s quite possible she’ll disappear altogether rather than return to independent films, re-emerging only after her kid’s fully grown and she herself largely forgotten.
